Mattress companies are renowned for tweaking, changing, renaming or entirely replacing their line-up of models. It can be hard to keep up with what's what. My ‘old’ mattress was not even particularly old but it was the second time we had invested in that mattress, because it was one that we had loved before. However, something had clearly been altered, because the new version did not live up to its predecessor in any way. You could feel movement in the mattress when either myself or my partner moved in the nighttime, it was a little lumpy, and overall just wasn’t as comfortable. So a new mattress was definitely on our wish list, and when the opportunity came up to try out the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress, I immediately jumped at the chance.
When we delved into the specifications of the Origin Hybrid Pro, we had high hopes that the issues we'd experienced with our old mattress would cease to bother us. This mattress seemed to have everything we wanted: a medium firm mattress, breathability to enable cooler sleeping and responsive, supportive springs that ensure a peaceful sleep. And all for a very competitive price, too. It was time to discover whether the description online would live up to the product itself.
Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress: Is it worth buying?
I’m happy to report that my experience of the mattress so far has been really positive. After the quick next-day delivery, we unpacked the mattress from its box, and left it for a weekend to inflate to full size while we went away for a little holiday. Upon our return, the mattress was ready to go. Some customers of mattresses that have memory foam report a synthetic, ‘off-gassing’ smell when the mattress is released from the packaging, but I am happy to report that we have not noticed anything at all. Perhaps leaving it for a couple of days to air out helped, so I would advise doing this if you have the ability to.
On my first night sleeping on the mattress, I immediately noticed the superior comfort in comparison to my old one - the optimum balance of soft yet firm. The significant depth of the mattress is another feature of note; at 31cm deep, this is a luxuriously thick mattress. You will need deeper fitted sheets, so bear this additional purchase in mind if you don't already have a chunky mattress. The mattress's height is there to encapsulate all seven of the premium layers that make up the inside. These ergonomic zones are where the mattress really excels. They include 5,700 micro-springs to help with support and comfort, and different technologies such as graphite-infused latex, bamboo-infused wool and CoolFlex comfort foam, to help regulate breathability and temperature. The plush pillowtop (which can be zipped off and washed in the machine) moulds to the body, adding the cushioned icing on the cake.
Though advertised as medium-firm, this mattress definitely errs on the firm side of medium, which is perfect for us. It's both supportive and comfortable for sleeping on my back, more so than any mattress I have ever had, as well as sleeping on my side. It is also the first time in a while that a full night of uninterrupted sleep occurred without movement from each other interrupting it. And as the weather is just starting to warm up, I will really start to appreciate the cooling properties of some of the materials.
