Members’ favourites: Bespoke Rugs from members of The List
Bespoke rugs can transform a space by adding colour, texture and style. Draughty wooden floors benefit from the beauty of a rug, whether contemporary or traditional in style, not only by creating warmth underfoot but also by enhancing the room with a vibrant colour or a striking pattern. Although it is tempting to start shopping right away, it's best to factor in some practical concerns beforehand. Start by looking at the room you're interested in adding a rug to. Does it tend to have a lot of foot traffic, like, for instance, a hallway or staircase, or are you trying to add softness underfoot in a bedroom or lounge? The answer to this question will help you determine the type of material that's best fit for the job.
If it's the former, a wool rug with a low pile or a flatweave can be a good choice, as they are durable and can quickly bounce back after being stepped on. For even more reliability, opt for a darker colour or a pattern, as this will hide unruly dirt until the next hoover.
If durability isn't your primary concern, silk rugs can be a fantastic option as they can deliver softness and a reflective quality that makes the piece's colour shift under light. Silk is also well-known for it's hypoallergetic and temperature-regulating properties, making it a good choice for both warm and cool climates.
